The process of accounts preparation involves many tasks and steps.

Confirm we have an appropriate and up to date Engagement letter.
Review file for any changes of address and tax reference etc.
Review books and records received to ensure we have all the information.
Make enquiries with regard to missing information either direct or from third party sources.
Ensure we have the right work programme.
Review the client’s business for any specialist laws and regulations.
Confirm we have received a bank letter (if applicable).
Review last year’s file for any significant issues.
Perform preliminary analytical procedures to identify any unusual/unexplained movements and/or fluctuations.
Plan the work to be performed and prepare a detailed budget.
Analyse the key control accounts and supporting schedules.
Review client’s records and analyse information required for the Tax Return(s).
Calculate prepayments, accruals and depreciation amounts and analyse as appropriate.
Perform cut-off testing to ensure accounts are congruent with the year end.
Prepare a list of journals and adjustments for posting to the final accounts.
Ensure lead schedules are complete and agree to the final accounts.
Perform final analytical procedures and review the accounts for sense.
Call and cast the accounts. Review for typographical errors.
Ensure file has been reviewed by partner.
Prepare a representation letter.
Perform a disclosure check on the statutory accounts.
Review wording of the Accountant’s Report.
